PThe multiple trips to Peru were medical/dental missions trips. Mary participated in three trips which took her across the length of Peru — from Tarapoto and Yurimaguas in the Amazon region; to Lima on the coast; Machu Picchu and Chincero in the Andes; to Arequipa, Colca Canyon and surrounding areas in the South. She was used as an interpreter and she provided dental hygiene education. On her first visit to northern Peru, while in the area near the Columbian border, Mary learned about some of the impact drug unrest and guerilla warfare has had on the children who now live in orphanages in Lima. In many cases the children were orphaned when their parents refused to join the guerillas. On her second visit to Tarapoto, she met a man who had been one of the guerillas who had participated in the killing; but had left that life behind when he came to know Jesus. The Lord gave Mary the opportunity to minister to this man and help him finally receive the peace of Christ’s forgiveness. Calvin worked hard at the important job of sterilizing batch after batch of dental tools throughout the day in Colca Canyon and the surrounding areas. There were many miracles on these trips, and many came to know Christ as Lord and Savior.
